LPNA MEETING January 17, 2008

Meeting called to order at 6:30 PM by President Jen Gedaminski.
- Neighborhood Police Officer Kevin Barrington reported on recent events of concern in the neighborhood (e.g. the shooting that occurred at 1228 N 4 th.) He related that was in a series of three shootings, one of which occurred much further west of LPN that resulted in an arrest. The nature of the problem was a family dispute. The landlord of the property was notified of the problem.
He further explained how and when to notify the police of concerns, the confidentiality of such calls, and the landlord’s options in such situations.

- Bake Sale and Home Tour $2,100.00

Donations of $100. were made by 21 people

- Balance $1,860.00
- 25 more signs to be purchased at $60.00 per sign.
Big Brother/Big Sister representative, Amanda, received the check of $1000. for their partnership in our Home Tour/Bake Sale.
Two types of mentoring programs, the benefits, and the cost of maintaining the programs were described. Our donation will be used for recruitment purposes.
Another fund-raiser, Bowl for Kids’ Sake, is scheduled for March.
- 5th St. Renaissance representative, Debbie Williams, provided the Wish List for donations for their new facility. Donations will be received in February; the facility will open a few weeks later.
An open house is planned for the public.
County Board Member Dave Kamper (1330 N. 3 rd) was introduced. He related that a new Public Health building is being planned, possibly in the vicinity of the hospitals.
The New Officers introduced themselves and told what projects with which each would be involved.
A question was offered concerning garbage companies that do not require curb pickup.
The upcoming fundraiser of t-shirts and sweatshirts design was brought before the meeting.
The possibility of Emergency Responder numbers painted on the curb as being an Association member benefit was presented.
A discussion of the involvement of the Association with rental property code violations offered several pros and cons.
Surveys of neighborhood interest, concern, and volunteers were handed out.
Neighborhood Watch
A need for a new chair for the Safety & Crime Prevention Committee was mentioned. This committee is for the purpose of helping areas get Neighborhood Watches started.
Neighborhood Watch of 3 rd St will meet Thursday, January 24, 6:30 PM at the Bed & Breakfast.
Neighborhood Watch of 1500 block of 3 rd & 4 th Streets will meet for Soup Night on February 22, 7 PM, at the Trotters.
- Garage Sale/Plant Sale (at Brinkerhoff)/Neighborhood Clean-up as upcoming events were presented to the members.
It was suggested that the garage sale not be the same weekend as graduations.
Refreshments were provided by Kara Trotter.
Next LPNA Meeting will be held on March 27, 6:30 PM, at St. Joseph’s Cafeteria.
