Springfield Green/Springfield in Bloom. Our project this year is to help landscape the front of 5 th Street Renaissance/Sarah Center. Committee head is Jen Gedaminski.
Volunteers for the committee at the meeting: Doug Williams, Roger Schmitz, Roberta Reif, Cathie Bryant, and Joan Romiti . (Check me on those names, Jen. I’m not sure that I have the correct last names.) Other volunteers may contact Jen at 725-3228.
Neighborhood Garage Sale will be Saturday, June 14, 8 AM to noon. The Association will put the ad in the paper.
NeighborhoodClean-up will be the following Saturday, June 21, starting at 8 AM at St Joseph’s school. AlleyClean-up will be done at the same time.
No pesticides, toxic materials, paint, tires will be accepted.

LPNA Party in the Park will be August 2 beginning at 4 PM, located in Site #1.

Monument Avenue Beautification project update by Bob Vose: Completion goal is set for next year, the 200 th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. Plans to beautiful the avenue, restore the arch entrance to the cemetery. $50,000. has been provided by the government and another $50,000. needs to be raised to pay for expenses.
St Joseph’s Men’s Club formation was announced by Jim Trotter. The first project will be a bell carillon for the church. BBQ dinner fundraiser is on June 20, tickets are $7.00.
Neighborhood Watch meeting for the 1500 block of 3 rd and 4 th Streets will be June 20 at the Sullivan House.
Speaker’s Bureau Guest speakers for the evening were:
Mike Stratton, Park Board Executive Director,
Kent Massie of Massie and Massie Landscaping Architect, the architect overseeing the Lincoln Park lagoon restoration project, and
Jean Bruner-Jachino, Parks Foundation.
Mr. Massie provided information of interest concerning the plans and progress of the 3 step project Lincoln Park project: 1) Restore the Bridge (completed) 2) Dredge the lagoon, restore path. (at this point the lagoon area will be usable once again) and 3) enhancements, additional plantings, etc.
Work was detained from April through June 1, when no large equipment was allowed in. Work will resume June 1, weather permitting.
Projected completion date: the final seeding to be done by State Fair week.
Mr. Stratton informed us of the “Park Watch” program. If people are seen vandalizing the parks, call the Park Police. Added lights will provide added security, as does increased usage of the area.

Traffic studies of Washington and Lincoln Parks are being done. There are public hearings concerning these in Washington Park on Tuesday, June 3, 6P.M., and at Lincoln Park Pavilion on Wednesday, June 25, 6 P.M.
A new baseball team, The Springfield Sliders, will begin games at Lanphier Park on Thursday, June 5, at 7:05. We were encouraged to support this new team and enjoy an opportunity for family fun and entertainment. Website: Springfieldsliders. Com
LPNA is discussing partnering with the Park District & Foundation concerning scholarships for park activities, such as Day Camp.
Ms. Bruner-Jachino clarified that the $18,000. that was raised by the park’s centennial and earmarked for Lincoln Park is being held for Lincoln Park in the Parks Foundation.
She expressed the need for further fundraising opportunities such as memorial benches, light posts, and bricks to be placed around the lagoon area.
An open discussion was held after their presentations.
