Local Projects for April, 2009
- Visit Springfield in Bloom's online trading post: http://www.springfieldinbloom.org/ tradingpost.htm for exchanging plants, tools, ideas, and more to create a cleaner and greener Springfield
- Plan a neighborhood clean-up day: Reserve the Springfield Parks Foundation's Community Tool Wagon and get all the supplies you need to revamp your block and common ground areas. Shovels, rakes, gloves and more-it's fully equipped. They'll even drop it off at your work site and it's FREE. Call Doug Reynolds at (217) 553-1329 for reservation info.
- Team up with neighbors to plant the boulevard or plant with a theme across several yards
- Thursday, April nrd: Pleasant Nursery's 60 th Anniversary Celebration
- April 24 th & 25 th : Green Home & Garden Show, with educational seminars at The Orr Building (I11inois State Fairgrounds). For more info: http://www.springfieldareahba.com/
- Wednesday, April 22 nd : Celebrate Earth Day
- Wednesday, April 29th, 5:30 p.m.: America in Bloom informational meeting at Illinois National Bank, 4 th & Jackson (see invitation for additional event details)
- Remove any winter protection
- Clean flower beds and yards in preparation for planting
- Divide and move perennials. Amend soil as needed.
- Plant annual flowers (be prepared to cover the annuals if there is a late frost)
